Can I backup web applications, sites, sub-sites, lists, and document libraries from my on-premise MS SharePoint Server?

Yes. IDrive's MS SharePoint backup feature is a complete backup solution for your on-premise MS SharePoint server. It supports the backup of web applications, sites, sub-sites, lists, documents, and libraries from your on-premise MS SharePoint Server.

How do I backup my on-premise MS SharePoint server?

To backup your on-premise MS SharePoint server,

1. Sign in to the IDrive desktop application and click 'Server Backup'. A slider menu will appear.
2. Click 'On-premise MS SharePoint'. The MS SharePoint backup/restore console appears. By default, 'MS SharePoint backup' is selected.
   
3. Select 'Online Backup', or 'Local Backup' or 'IDrive Express™ Backup'.

   Note: On selecting 'Online Backup', the data will be stored on the IDrive cloud whereas on selecting 'Local Backup' or 'IDrive Express™ Backup' the data will be stored in the local drive.

   
4. Select the websites and applications from the list which appears and specify the local backup location.
5. Specify the temporary local backup path and click 'Schedule Now'.
   

   Note: Once the local backup is initiated, '.ServerBackup' folder is auto-created.

   
6. The 'Scheduler’ is displayed where you can schedule the backup for any future day and time or perform an immediate backup of the selected websites.
   

Can I backup web-application/sites from multiple web-front ends?

Yes. Using IDrive, you can backup web applications/sites from multiple web-front ends.

Under what name and extension are the backup files of my on-premise MS SharePoint server stored on IDrive?

All the backup files of your on-premise MS SharePoint server are stored in the folder 'IDSharePointServerBkset'.

Can I restore my sites, sub-sites, list, and document library to different sites?

Yes. IDrive's granular restore capability enables you to restore a single item (document library), folder, or website to the same site or a different site.

How do I restore my on-premise MS SharePoint server?

1. Sign in to the IDrive desktop application and click 'Restore'.
2. Select 'Online Restore', 'Local Restore' or 'IDrive Express™ Restore'.
3. Locate and select the 'IDSharePointBkset' folder in your IDrive account or local drive.

Note: If 'Local Restore' is selected, you can choose the required version from the 'Version' list.

4. Click the 'Restore Now' button, to restore the 'IDSharePointBkset' folder to the local computer.
   
5. Once the folder has been successfully restored, click 'Server Backup'. A slider menu will appear.
6. Click 'On-premise MS SharePoint'. The MS SharePoint backup/restore console appears.
   
7. Click 'MS SharePoint restore'.
8. Browse and choose the 'IDSharePointBkset' folder (restored earlier from your IDrive account or local drive).
   
9. Select the websites you want to restore and click the 'Restore Now' button.
   

How do I backup 12, 14, 15, and 16 hive folders of my on-premise MS SharePoint server?

You can manually backup 12, 14, 15, and 16 hive folders by selecting them from your on-premise MS SharePoint server location using IDrive. The probable location will be the MS SharePoint server installation folder as mentioned below:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\

Does IDrive’s on-premise MS SharePoint server backup perform the backup of external dependencies like /_layouts/images/?

No, these external dependency files ( /_layout/image/ ) are available in the "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\IMAGES" path. You can select the files / folders from the above path and back them to your IDrive account.
